HAT founder, Avalanche Awareness expert and off piste guide
Henry started giving avalanche-safety talks in Val d’Isère in the late 1980’s and created HAT in 2001 to respond to the ever-increasing requests to provide awareness and information about off-piste terrain. The HAT team now runs regular programmes in the Alps and UK under the placard of ‘Safety is Freedom’.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Having learnt to ski in the relatively small and snow-stable mountains of Vermont, New England, at nineteen years old headed to Europe to discover the thrills of Alpine off-piste adventure; he had the technical skills to push the limits and became hooked for life. It wasn’t until he experienced a dangerously close call with an avalanche that he realised his complete ignorance of mountain safety could have been fatal. Inspired, he chose to learn about the subject of avalanche forecasting and avalanche control at Montana State University and in ski areas around Bozeman, Montana. However, when the call of Alpine off-piste drew him back to the Alps, he soon discovered that most off-piste skiers were as unaware as he used to be. Thus began a life dedicated to the thrill of riding, safely, in the big mountains, learning about snow and passing that knowledge onto those keen to know more.

Andreas - off piste guide - HAT presenter and technical expert on avalanche talks content and HATadventures programme design
andreas@henrysavalanchetalk.com
There have been rumours that Andreas was out jammin' and crooning the likes of Sweet Home Alabama and Proud Mary several times in December. He has put at least one local guitarist's job into question according to sources who have asked to remain nameless (luckily for the guitarist Andreas has a day job as a guide at Alpine Experience in Val d'Isère as well as working with HAT). This photo was apparently taken at the Alpaca Bar in Tignes and considered to be authentic as the profile of Richie of Contraband fame has been confirmed in the background. Apparently Andreas has been known to make surprise appearances at dicks tea bar in Val d'Isère too, much to the delight of the audience and dick's staff - much to the chagrin of the less charismatic lead singer and guitarist. To those who know Andreas it's not surprising, "it's just one more talent to add to his skiing, golf (5 handicap) and various other things that come easily too him" exclaimed a Team HAT member present at the time. Andreas was speechless and slightly cross-eyed when asked when and where he acquired his musical talent.
HAT is actively building ties with the press:
- to increase awareness of the HAT message, 'Safety is Freedom'
- to provide increased visibility for venues, sponsors, individuals and other partners who support HAT
Above and beyond the many opportunities HAT provides people to view your brand through traditional means (web site, promo at Talks, printed media, film, posters, etc.), HAT Team members promote partner's brands in context.
